The only reason why i gave a quick tug on his lead was the dog that he was playing with or trying to has bitten other dogs in the block. I didn't want my duke to be the next victim. Duke's great with other dogs and cats. Usually when my other neighbor brings their jack russels and a pit bull we let them play together w/ out any problems...
there's about 3 dogs w/ in our neighborhood that have been known to bite other dogs... and one of the guys in the block have told me which area to avoid... I haven't yet met a BT that has been aggressive towards other dogs or people... Just glad that I'm lucky to have a very passive and calm one...
I do agree with what you say about having dogs meet on neutral grounds and have them sniff each other out for a few min before letting the lead off. I was told to do that by a friend of my brother who's on animal planet as a dog trainer....
