I wouldn't provide water until he's not have accidents in the house, unless you are gone for long periods of time, it's going to make house breaking tougher.

As for the food, I never leave food in there. But to promote the crate as his den, I did put his food bowl in there and left the door open to get him walking into his crate on his own. Remove the bowl when he's done. I also have another dog, the one in my avatar, so that keeps her from eating Roger's food.

It's good to let the pup out in the middle of the night when it's possible, I kept mine on leash for the first 2 months so he knows outside is for #1 & 2. Now that he's 6 months old, he does very well.
