Default Burying Bones?
Old 01-04-2007, 01:12 PM   #1 (permalink)

Does anyone else's BT bury bones? If I give Ellie a rawhide bone she goes crazy! She whimpers and cries while she looks for a place to bury it. We have found rawhide bones in the strangest places from bottoms of dresser drawers (my kids never shut their drawers!) to my son finding one in his backpack at school. One of her favorite places to hide bones is in the dirty laundry. If I let her outside she digs a hole, buries the bone, nudges all the dirt back in place, then digs it up 5 mintues or 5 days later. And Oh, by the way, she NEVER actually eats or chews on them!!!

It's things like that when I really want to know what's going through a dog's head. Why in the world would your dog cry and feel the need to bury the bone?

Unfortunately, I have no earthly idea why Ellie might be acting that way...I guess they all just have different personalities. Jake is the exact opposite - when I give him a rawhide, he'll chew on that thing until it turns to mush and then eat most of it.

That is a good question though and I'd love to hear opinions from others. Anybody?

Kona does the same thing...He'll be in the backyard burrying bones all over the place.
Another thing he will bury are little toy treasures he finds from my kids. I find it so funny and cute. If he's burrying a bone or some treasure, and if he spots us, he'll stop, walk away as though he wasn't up to anything, then once we're out of sight (we'll be hiding), he'll go right back to finishing what he was doing. CUTE!!!
I would love to know what is going on in his mind too. We've never taken a treat back when he's been given it, so I'm not sure why he acts like we're going to steal his treat back. LOL

I wonder if they feel like we do after eating a lot of beef jerky? You like the taste but your teeth and jaws hurt? Our big dog was like that with rawhides. She never wanted to eat it just find some place to hide it or bury it. She did have bad teeth for an old girl so that might have been why?

I've never actually seen Brynna bury or hide any of her bones. At just over 3 months old, she doesn't get rawhide yet but we've had 5 Nylabones disappear. (These would be the inedible teething ones.)

We have searched all the low points in the house, under all the furniture and every place she has access too... no luck in finding them though. We are pretty sure she hides them and so far, she's better at hiding than we are at finding!
