Default Playing favorites?
Old 06-14-2007, 01:22 PM   #1 (permalink)

Does your Boston play favorites? We rescued a 10 month old Boston who is extremely attached to me, mommy. Not that I mind, but it's getting to be a pain b/c Jack will not go out for Dad. Jack is on the leash takes about 2 steps with Dad and then collapses on the ground. What is up with this and what can I/we do to change it? I told my husband he needs to show Jack that he is in charge, pick him up and bring him to a spot to go to the bathroom. Both of them are being very stubborn
Any advice or tips?

my bostons have their favorites too. I would say that you may have to revert back to using treats. They love treats and learn well with them. good luck

fausto prefers me. marc can stand on his head if i'm around. if he wants to let him out to go potty he looks at me as if he wants to say "are you serious?" but if i am not around he loves marc to peaces!

now this is funny and yet not.... my wife and i got duke 1.5 weeks ago.... and he is pretty much attached to me. my wife calls him and he'll go but when it comes to me leaving, he'll scratch at the door and when my wife leaves it's like he doesn't care... i told my wife that it's because i'm the one that walks him 3 times a day and i'm the one that feeds him.... he'll go to her only when she has treats or if were playing in the living room...

i feel that the walks is a great way to bond with any dog... he's almost 9 months old...

My advice to MAC is that the pup must be walked by both owners not just one, treats are good but if his energy towards the pup is one of "who cares" it'll make it harder for your lil one to bond with... I'm currently going through that with my wife...

Good Luck

all dogs will choose one leader. this is not necessarily the one who feeds or walks him. this is a natural behavior and the treats will encourage the bond but they will always choose their favorite!
i've had a belgian sheppard that chose my husband. i fed her i walked her but she only tollerated me when the husband wasn't home!
