Default Boston too calm?!?!?!

Jake my 6 month old Boston is what i consider a bit to laid back for the breed. My family has owned bostons in the past and present and I've never seen one quite like him. I'm not complaining, it's nice sometimes not to have to worry about a dog running around the house at 100 m.p.h. But it does seem a bit strange.

While at home he would rather sit on your lap and nap instead of play. At the dog park he just stands near me and watches the other dogs play around him. He will chase the tennis ball around, but only by himself, not with other dogs. I guess i just expect him to play with the other dogs more...

Anyone else have any similar experiences with your boston?

My Buddy is laid back and lovey, he played with us all the time but was not very dog social. Then we got Buster. He plays really well with Buster. Maybe yours needs to get some social time with one other dog for a while, like a playdate. The dog park may be too overwelming for him. Good luck.

I think all dogs have different personalities and dispositions. Though bostons are generally a little more "high-strung" than your average pup, their level of crazy is gonna vary from dog to dog

We have two bostons, and in many ways they couldn't be more different!

Consider yourself very lucky! Actually, my three are pretty mellow when inside, but when they go outside, they are all over the place

Rosco is kind of both. He loves laying around on the couch with me all day, but he also loves doing the BT 500 around the house. Just depends on his mood I guess.

My new BT, Cosmo, is like this. I love it, as we've had many high energy dogs - boxers, springers, a Sheltie, and this BT is just what I like. My only regret is that he doesn't play with our 3 yr old Sheltie, Maisy, at all. She whimpers at him, and he sniffs her, and then takes a nap. He will get up when I do and, with Maisy, follow me around, curious, but after a minute or so, he's curled up somewhere in a ball.

I think scatdog had a really good idea...maybe a one on one playdate with another dog might be helpful. My BT is a freak with other dogs...really submissive, doesnt really want to deal with them, but he plays like crazy with his pug brother. Maybe if he had a dog friend he could get to know and be comfortable with...

Our BT is a pretty chilled and relaxed. He really likes to cuddle up on the couch with us. From time to time he'll jump up, get excited, do tailspins and run in circles, then relax again. When he is on a playdate with other dogs, he's ecstatic and is so energetic we love it for him,

My puppy is exactly the same I assume he will grow out of it althought you might want to get him checked for worms.
