Default 2.5 year old boston, new owner needs help!

alright, so i got a boston terrier today! i got it knowing he had a few behavior problems, so they werent a surprise or anything.

i came here to find people who really care and know what they are talking about. i think this is a great place for me to start so ill tell you what i know.

first off his name is buster, he is 2.5 and he IS neutered. i dont know a whole lot more besides that.

he was with another dog (which i also have now, but the other dog :buddy: is a PERFECT dog) and he (buster) was the alpha/dominant dog.

when he gets upset (and sometimes just because) he likes to potty inside.

now i am kinda new to having a neutered dog - but arent they supposed to be wayyy less likely to mark stuff? because he went around my house and marked a FEW things (nothing crazy).

he also apparently likes to bite things he isnt supposed to - which im much less worried about.

so my question is - how do i get him to hold it and let me know he needs to go out (he DOES go when taken outside he just doesnt seem to care to let you know) and how do i get him to stop marking things?

please help me, or let me know if you need to know anything else about the situation or him.

i have only had him for a few hours but i thought i should get a head start so i joined and posted now.

thanks a million!

it's pretty difficult to give a solution. first ofall i haven't seen the do.g and i have to take your word for the interputation of the behavior of your dog. so here goes.
you say it's a dominant dog. how do you know this? which behavior do you see?
then you say that he has come to live with you with the other dog. how is their behavior together?
he's neuterd but for how long. is the other dog also neuterd? has he had any more problems because neutering can cause incontinence.
you say he marks the home. what do you see. does he chose particular spots or does he do it randomly? does he pee against something or just on the floor.
your question is how can i teach him to hold it. but if he is marking his territory then it's not a case of being incontinent. you can't teach then to tell you when he needs to go because marking territory doesn't have anything to do with needing to go potty.

so you'll need to give much more information before i can give sollutions.....

Default Passive Submissive
Old 02-20-2008, 02:38 PM   #4 (permalink)

I have a female that is "passive submissive" and the vet says she cannot help that she occasionally urinates. She will go if the door bell rings or you pet her and she is excited, etc. She doesn't often do this, but when she does, it is upsetting.

Submissive urination is a totally differnt ball game and it too can be cured.

Waiting to hear the answers to the questions Ester asked. This could be so many things and maybe easy to fix and maybe not.... but still fixable! lol
