Default A few issues
Old 02-27-2008, 06:12 PM   #1 (permalink)

My male Bt has social issues...when we first got him he was 9 weeks old and we moved into a brand new area, so there wasnt many people or dogs...but its been 2 years since we've had him and only in the last few months have we noticed that there are a lot more people and dogs in our area. our new problem is that we cant take him for walks when there are people and dogs about he gets really rough with the other dogs when they come near him, but we cant tell if its just that he really wants to play or is he being aggressive. He barks at the people if they are across the street..were not sure what to do at this point..we want to take him to obidiance classes but were afraid of how he will act around the other dogs and their owners. any sugestions would be great. :D

the other issue is house breaking..now i know is seems silly that hes 2 years and not house broken but hes trained himself to relive himself on the floor of our bathroom and we tried for 3 months to get him to do it outside but he wont..please help

these problems are not so easily solved via a forum. these issues are manifested for 2 years. obedience are things that are always recommended and can be started at any point. however it's a shame you didn't start him as a pup. with sociallization you should have done that from day one. you say that you have had the dog from 9 weeks on. in the first 12 weeks of a puppies life the sociallization takes place. this will never come back and if you want to sociallize you dog this will be neartly impossible. the only thing you could do is desensitize the dog so that he learns to ignore people and other dogs, but for that you'll need a behavioraltherapist. also for the potty training i would advise assistance. you could start potty trainig from scratch as if he's a puppy but you'll need to be consistend.

ask someone to see the dog to asses the dog and your behavior as the dog behaves like this because of your guiding.
i hope you find the solution!

One suggestion I have is to keep your bathroom door closed, when you see him making his way to the bathroom, you know he needs to go out- so take him. Are you crating him??? This should help to keep him from finding a new place to use (like the kitchen) when you aren't around!

I know this is an older post and you have probably found an answer by now, but perhaps this will help someone else!

Sorry if reviving this post is annoying to some of the older forum members!
