Default Is he showing aggression? - 04-25-2008, 01:59 PM

I have a 6 month old Boston, and lately he has been showing what i think might be aggressive behavior. Sometimes when he is laying on the couch with me he will roll onto his back and start wiggling around, make a low growl/whine, and nibbling on anything around him, including me! It isn't a full blown hard bite, just nibbling, but when he does this I usually take him off the couch and put him on the floor. He will then start barking louder and get an aggressive stance and his eyes will get extremely dilated. What should i do about this? Has anyone else encountered this behavior? Thanks.

my boston rolls apon his bones toys and "bites" them. this happens when he's very happy. he pulls the funniest face when he does. makes growling noises. he doesn't bite what he's not allowd to but he does grab his toys. when i play with him he'll bark and jump. this is not agressive with him. with your dog i cvannot give an answer. i'd need to see the dog. but why do you take him off the couch when he does this? when does he do it? if you leave the room instead of removeing him from the couch what does he do then? the dielating pupils means excitement eand not neccesarily argession.

Thanks for responding. Well, I usually take him off the couch because he starts biting everything, and i don't want him biting the couch cushions, or me for that matter. When he does it is what is concerning me. He used to do this only every once in a while, now it is occuring more frequently. Sometimes in the morning, sometimes at night, but it is happening everyday now. I have not tried leaving the room when he does this, I have tried ignoring him which works sometimes, but sometimes this gets him even more worked up and he starts barking more.

ignoring is a long process. ignoring means no reaction at all. this is really difficult but most effective. as you mentioned he starts barking even louder. this is part of the process. he'll increas the behavior to get a reaction and if you keep it up it will dissapear. but you'll need to ignore for a long time until he stops. don't even look at him as this is also a reaction..... leaving the room is the easiest way of ignoring. come back when he has stopped. if he starts leave again. he is chalanging you!
