Default boston crazy around guests
Old 06-21-2008, 05:35 PM   #1 (permalink)

Hey I live alone in an apartment with my boston. She's 19 months and has been socialized as a puppy.

Whenever i have someone over, a new girlfriend, some buddies. She always barks and goes nuts on the new people being very territorial and dogging them around the apartment.

I always say no and punish her, sometimes i have to grab her and hold her on her back but she won't stop being crazy. After awhile she calms down but always wants to jump all over my guests and lick their face when they sit down.

Is there anyway i can get her to listen to me with people over? She just won't listen, but listens fine 1on1 or if she is with my friends outside of the apartment.

It's impossible to ignore her because she is constantly trying to nip their hands when pushing her away or jumping and nipping at butts when people are walking around. It's a big problem for bringing people over here. I need a behavior plan, not even walking her before people come over helps.

It can take up to 4 hours of this person being over for her to calm down completely and if they try and yell no at her for biting she'll bark at them.

your giving her exactly wat she wants. attention. it doesn't matter if it's positive or negative attention but she's getting it!. give her a treat when you get visitors. a bone or chewy thing that she needs time for to finisch. don't punish this will cause more excitement. or use a crate.

I always make Rosco sit or lay in his crate until he's quiet. Esther is right-its about attention. A crate is their quiet place and is not punishment, Rosco loves his.
