Default House Training Problems
Old 08-12-2008, 06:28 PM   #1 (permalink)

Opie is a 14 month old neutered male that we've had for 3 months. We still don't have the potty issued resolved. He's crate trained and he potties outside, but he also potties inside if the urge hits him. He may go for a week with no inside incidences, then squat next to the sofa and let 'er go.

We've done everything the books and videos say, including keeping him tethered to me. He peed between my feet. I'm an experienced dog owner, although this is my first BT. Can anyone give us some help please.

When we first brought Tucker home it was winter and he was very small so we tried to paper train him but he would go everywhere BUT on the paper then we started taking him outside and he would pee outside and then still pee inside. I've heard you can expect them to hold their pee for one hour for each month old they are plus one. That helped me understand and be patient with him. Try limiting how much water you make avaiable, maybe fill the water dish 15 mins before you know your going outside. It took Tcker 8 months to be fully house broken, some dogs just take longer, stay consistant and good luck
