Unhappy Need help re-training our new BT
Old 08-27-2008, 09:40 PM   #1 (permalink)

We just purchased a Boston. She's 1.5 years old and she's gorgeous. We feel in love as soon as we saw her and our male Boston (Tucker) seemed to get along with her. We are having trouble with her going to the bathroom in the house. But it's not like she's just having aaccidents she refuses to go to the bathroom outside. I found out that at her old home she had a doggy door so she went in and out as she pleased and when no one was home she was crated. I think that she doesn't want to go to the bathroom on a leash since she's not used to it. Any suggestions?

Also we don't crate our other dog he has free roam and he's an angel but over the last 2 days she has gotten into so much stuff she chews things and takes the pillows off our bed...I don't know what to do I really didn't want to crate one and not the other...
HELP!!!!

hi! i have adopted a 3 year old boston lady and we have her now for 2 weeks. i have crated her because as you have found out they do get into mischief . but i have crated both my dogs sinds she has arrived. i have put them both in one LARGE crate and they love it. they snuggel up toghether and now go and sleep in there when they are tired.
i'd suggest crate them and treat the new bt as a puppy. teach her to go poty as if she is a pup. they learn more quickly and you'll probably find that she only needs a couple of days to adjust. also take the other dog with you at all times. they will teach each other where to go.....

I totally agree with what Esther said. I think you need to go back to basics as if she were a pup. But if you do decide to crate her I wouldnt put Tucker in there with her. He's probably set in his routine of having free run of the house so putting him in a crate now might cause friction between the two of them if they're in such close proximity to each other. I've had one of mine shut in a crate with the other 2 roaming the house and she was fine with it, because that was HER routine! Until she learnt to pee outside!
