My boyfriend kept Gizmo on a consistent schedule. he made sure every two hours, on the hour, he took him outside to potty and said 'potty' over and over while he was going. Josh, my boyfriend, made Giz go before and directly after eating, which fell on one of the two hour markers. Giz had a few accidents here and there, but for the most part, he was able to hold it for that two hours. i was told by a vet that puppies can 'hold it' for an hour for every month old they are. we made sure he stayed on a two hour schedule for the first two months, then gradually made he time spans longer.
we were very lucky because Josh was able to stay home 24/7 with him to keep him on schedule, rather than both of us working and not being able to keep consistency.
another couple helpful tips:
we took giz everywhere with us for the first couple months: in the car, in the store (in a shopping cart), etc. now he loves riding in the car and is extremely comfortable with people.
also, we always made toys readily available to Giz. if he ever started to chew on something else, we gave him his own toy, calling it by what it was 'ball', 'elephant', 'rope' and he had NEVER chewed up anything that was not his, and he knows all his toys by name and will go retrieve them when we ask.
i hope you enjoy your new little bundle of joy!!! if you havent had the pleasure of enjoying a boston before, take it from a first time boston fanatic, they are unlike any other dog you ever have, or ever will have as a part of your family.
i look forward to seeing pictures of little dexter!
