Smile Crying Constantly on Walks?

Hey all!

Well, our little Boston (Gremlin, 2 yrs. old) is a great dog. We've been working on some training and she's been learning well, however there is one area that I still can't quite figure out.

We take Gremlin out on a walk every day, sometimes twice a day. A couple times per week I also "skate" her (I throw on the inline hockey skates and run her around the neighborhood.) She gets plenty of exercise, including trips to the dog park, etc. I should mention we also have a pug, and she interacts well with her, and we just got a new French Bulldog puppy, and she has been extremely good with him as well. She loves playing with him, and acts almost motherly with him a lot of the time.

Each time I take her out for a walk, usually with our other dog (a pug), she starts crying, sometimes so loud that it's embarrassing because the neighbors must think she's been hit by a car or is being beaten or something. The crying sometimes gets very loud and horrible sounding, almost like screaming.

What I usually do when she starts this behavior is just stop the walk until she calms down, and then we continue. I am doing this so she realizes we won't continue walking until she calms down. Usually she stops, then about 20 feet later, she starts crying again. Usually by halfway through the walk she calms down and stops crying all together. The second half of our walks are usually fine.

Any ideas? I can't figure this bitch out! (but having fun trying :D)

Thanks,
Miles

Try to associate walks with good things like treats. Just put a handful in your pocket before you go, and reward good behavior. When she whines and you are able to get her to walk forward, give them a treat, you cant really leave out your pug. Other than that, I dont know, but the treats cant make it worse.

Alright... I'll try that and see how it works out. Thanks!

It might take a few weeks, but I hope it works out. Good luck!
