Default mouth on everything
Old 10-27-2008, 01:25 PM   #1 (permalink)

I am new to Boston's. Have Jack Russell and Lab. Just picked up 3 mth old male Boston.

This puppy puts his mouth on everything in the house, furniture, carpet, plants, you name it.
Is this a sign that the puppy will be a chewer or is this normal?

I am not a pro BUT I read that Bostons like to chew. Our 13 weeks boy chews on everything sticks, rocks, grass, leaves, carpet, furniture, etc....... I always keep a chew toy around me, Nylabone, rawhide sticks, etc. with me so when he chews on things he is not suppose to chew on I divert him with the toy. I think that since your boy is teething that this is why he is chewing on everything - this is what ours is doing....

Goodluck!

My Boston Bindi chewed everything in the woods!! Now she doesn't and she is 5 months old. We have toys all over so she now knows what to chew. She chews on a nylabone about twice a day.

Theres bitter apple spray that deters them from chewing on things their not supposed too that works. Other than working with him so he knows what he can or cant chew, something else you should get is a Kong. Their very tough and dogs love them! You can stuff them with frozen peanut butter, treats, kibble, anything they'll eat and can safely have. Keeps them busy for hours. Just inspect it to make sure they cant chew off pieces as you would with any other toy. They make them for puppies as well.

Nylabones (especially the softer types) and Kong toys are great! my BT is 1.5 years old, and i still have to 'bribe' her with chewable toys if i leave her for too long. she won't chew on furniture, but any shoes, belts, zipped-up sweaters or pillows are too much to resist.

I haven't had too many problems with Lola chewing on most things. She did try the kitchen cabinets once or twice and is also partial the our entertainment stand.

She does, however, eat everything off the ground she can get her mouth on. We have taught her "leave it" and it works pretty well as long as the item isn't TOO attractive to her.
