    Default Ear Cropping???

Soooooo.. my boston's ears stand on their own. I have never heard of a boston needing his ears cropped!

I saw a website for a vet that does crops and there was a photo of a boston that had his ears done.

Is this normal or is it for showing them??

    Info please I'm confused

Its kind of a person preference.
    I think it looks awful.
    But thats just an opinion.
Some breeders have dogs whose ears don't stand up (which I believe if they don't naturally stand up then your dog shouldn't be shown).

Cropped ears are a big no-no in the show ring from what I hear.

I don't like the way cropped ears look either and in some countires cropping is illegal.

It is my understanding that cropping ears is NOT done to make ears stand up and most vets that do the procedure (my hat off to those who won't) will not crop a Boston's ear unless the ear is already standing. The cropping is done to make a big ear smaller and supposedly more elegant (or some such nonsense).

hmmm. braverdave i think it is done to make them stand up - look at dobermans and boxers. still, the pictures i've seen REALLY don't seem pleasant, and i REALLY don't think that it is necessary. plus the floppy ears are so gosh darn cute.

I makes them stand up by cutting off the extra skin.

I'm pretty sure its not a 'no-no' in the showring. Unless things have changed recently and I'm unaware.

I think ear cropping is just mean and unnecessary. In my state it's against the law to do it after the puppies are 3 days old. It's a surgery that has no health benefits. Why put your baby at risk for no reason?

I don't get it. I love that Uma's ears are too big for her head. It's part of her charm.

haha well you people that dislike cropping may hate me in a minute.
I have a 21 week old doberman and we had his ears done.
It is to make them stand, because dobe's ears flop naturally.

But I can't imagine doing it to a boston who's ears generally always do stand on their own. I can't imagine Diego's ears if they weren't as wide as they are
I guess it's personal preference for boston's ears, same as other cropped breeds?!

No matter what the breed, it's just a ridiculous tradition. God made animals the way they are, not how we think they should be.
