Which is better, a collar or a harness? I plan on getting both, but I wanted some opinions. And what size does your full grown boston wear?

I was wondering this same thing. We have a collar for MoJo right now but are seriously considering the harness because of the breathing thing I think the harness is better for walking. Am I right Jimmy?

Yep - even though I refused to purchase one, I would recommend a harness if your boston is a puller (and I think the majority of them are). I didn't want one because I didn't want Jake to have to wear it around the house all the time and I also wasn't wild about having to put it on him every time I take him out. It took a lot of work, but I eventually trained him to not pull so much and to keep the leash loose, which was a blessing.

I did notice that while he was pulling, he coughed and choked quite a bit, so the tension distribution of a properly-fitted harness would have done him a world of good...if it wasn't for my stubbornness.

I used both a collar and the harness. LOL...not at the same time though. I started out with the collar when he was a lil' pup but when he could finally go out on walks he would pulled. Thus, making his eyes red. So, I bought the harness and it does wonders for the walk. NO more pulling, No more red eyes, No more chewing on the leash because it was choking him while he pulled.

I let him wear the harness when he not wearing any sweatshirts. He wear his sweatshirts when it's cold outside so I have to take the harness off and put the collar on.

I bought the adjustable collar and harness that way he would grow into it and didn't have to keep buying one.

Did you just get yours at Petsmart? or from an online retailer?

I got my harness from PETCO. I had one of the employees to fit him for the right size harness.

Our angel was never leashed trained. We got him at 8 months. So a harness was a must. Now he walks and doesn't pull, so we are back to a regular collar, as Cleveland, has 20 below zero days, and he is going to have to wear a thermal sweater, which a harness, will never work..

I love the Easy Walk Harness. It is anti-pull so it discourages pulling and it really works. Most harnesses have the attachment on the back which tends to encourage pulling. Think of sled dogs. Anyway, I highly recommend it. They have them at most pet stores in the training section.

Sidenote: I only put it on him for walks and also just have regular collars for identification...and flare.

Another sidenote: You wouldn't have to worry about coats/sweaters/sweatshirts with it because the leash attaches in the front and probably would still work with most of the warm stuff.

I started with a training collar, once Roger got used to it, the harness was a breeze, originally, I tried a harness, but he fought it too hard.
