Default The dog for me?
Old 03-11-2007, 04:21 PM   #1 (permalink)

Hi there!

I'm in the market for a dog and I LOVE Boston Terriers

I need to know if its the dog for me so here are a few important points:

- It'll be my first dog but have many friends with dogs and know how to handle them

- Can give atleast 1hr excercise per day, I also have a small secure garden

- Would like a dog I could throw a tennis ball for in a field and he'd bring it back. Would be on leads near roads but would like to let him off in fields etc.

- Work 9-5 but can take the dog for a walk before and after

- No kids/other pets

- Loving kinda guy

So is it the dog for me? Or do you need more info? Either way bring on the replies you crazy BT people!

In my experience, not much difference in temperament, except that my males have been on average a bit more active then the females, but it's not always the case. So the only difference is that a boy lifts his leg if you don't get him fixed before he starts that.

And what about breathing? If i get a vet checked dog the vet will have spotted any particular breathing problems aside from the normal short snouted symptons right?

Hi,

I think a Bostie would be great for you and I would say get a male. I have a 7 month male and I also work but I haven't had any problems with him although I do leave the TV on when i'm gone and he has lots of toys to keep him occupied. Koda loves to play and I'll walk him for 1-1.5 hrs a day and he loves it.
A vet will be able to check him out for you but I bought mine from a registered breeder and made sure I saw that they had already had his eyes checked as they are prone to eye problems, and that he had had his first shots. Hope this helps.

I know that my guy requires alot of attention, he is a high seperation anxiety guy, although i got him from a shelter. I believe that "breeder" dogs can have all the same problems a shelter dog does!! Just make sure you spend alot of time with the dog before making the decision and do lots of research on the breeders in your area!!
