We have an 8 yr old BT that we adopted about 1 1/2 yrs ago. We were informed that he was not very fond of thunderstorms. Well, that was an understatement because he truly freaks out!! He shakes, pants till he drips, and if it's the middle of the night, he does not allow you to sleep!! He will scratch at my pillow like he is saying "Mommy, wake up! I'm scared!"
We asked the vet what we could do, and he suggested Benadryl, which did nothing, then the next option was a medication they normally give for this kind of thing, but he was unable to take that due to his seizure history. The next option was valium, which we give him 1/2 tablet(2.5mg) when necessary.
Does anyone have any advice? other BT owners have this problem? Sometimes I feel guilty giving him the meds, but he is so pitiful you just want to do what you can to calm him!!

I had a chihuahua that was scared of storms, at first she would sit in a corner and pant and then later she hid behind the sofa and stayed there until the storm was over. She felt safe there and whenever she knew a storm was approaching she would run and hide behind it. I would say just let your dog be, in time he may find an area in the house he feels safe and stay there until the storm passes, it's better than giving your dog pills.
