Default With all the recalls, which foods are safe?

Hi,
We are getting ready for our newest member of our family to join us and we are shopping around for food. With all the recalls on the food and biscuits lately, I'm wondering what is safe out there? Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks so much!!!

Hi! Excited to hear you are getting a pup soon!
Here's a link to what foods are currently on the recall:

http://www.menufoods.com/recall/product_dog.html

Right now we feed both of our pups Science Diet Sensitive Stomach, but I have heard good and bad things about S.D. So, now with all of the food scares, I have been contemplating switching to an organic blend. Still undecided though.....
There is a thread on the forum that has a grading scale for food so you can use that as a reference to help you decide...it's under Health and Wellness: "what food are you feeding..?"
Hope that helps!!

some really good quality brands are;

all are natural made dog foods unlike purina, iams and other grocery store/vet brands

Nature's Variety (My fave)
Merrick
Timberwolf
Go! Natural (canadian made)
Canidae (currently feeding my boy this mixed with pedigree vitality- which my parents feed)

The grocery store brands that I would feed my dog if I had to are:

Nutro
Pedigree Vitality- better then most grocery store brands
and
Costco brand Kirkland - this food is the best of the grocery store brands...so yes its better then Iams, Eukanuba and purina...

hope that helps a little more....

the best food for your dog is the Raw diet or the BARF diet...but it can get kind of gross, and since I do not yet do it, I cant really comment on it... If you want more info on the natural brands feel free to ask!!!

Thanks for your suggestions and advice. We are rescuing Jack, a 7-8 month old Boston, and when I spoke to his foster mom, she said he only eats dry food and she was mixing Iams with something else I can't remember. Where do you purchase the all natural dog food? Like a Petco?

I'm going to check out that recall list and I guess do some more research.
Thanks again!!!

I order my food from the horse feed store but you can order it straight off the internet...it might prove to be cheaper just do a search on their names in google and a website should come up!!!

Thanks for rescueing!!

We have always fed Innova , it's expensive ,but well worth the health of your babies...all organic, human grade materials, not involved in food recall. It takes awhile for some dogs to adjust as there are so many ingre. in this one, just start slow and mix with your current food ,and gradually increase Innova..Iams has too much corn in it...my girls tend to throw it up , they can't digest the corn. Rule of thumb read the first 4 ingre. and it tells you everything you need to know, also watch the type of preservative they use ...no B.H.T. Innova had vitimin E as preservative.

I use Royal Canin for Small Dogs (puppy formation, for now!). Lola really likes it, it has smaller kibbles for small dogs and is carried by a lot of veterinarians.

When we first got her, we were giving her Orijin, which is completely organic. We found it didn't really agree with Lola much though and had to switch. A lot of people I know us it, with great experiences.

These might be brands only available in Canada? Not sure....

I know Iams is low on the list of good food, but Rosco does very well on it. I get the natural chicken bag, but you can check out dogfoodanalysis.com to see what the good foods are. You just have to stick with what your dog does good on and likes.

I like Innova, because it is natural, but also made by the company in their own factory. Most companies have their food made in a factory that makes food for lots of companies and I worry about how much control they really have over the production of their food.
