Hi,
I'm considering getting a boston. A friend of my husband's said that Boston's throw up all the time. I didn't know if this was a true statement about Boston's in general. I have a friend with a Boston and she said her dog used to throw up a lot her first year if she mistakenly ate human food. She's over a year old now and doesn't have problems with vomiting but I have read on this website about people having problems with their BT's vomiting. Could someone explain this to me?

I have read a few stories on these forums about Bostons throwing up, but in my experience i have not seen this. My aunt had a Boston years ago and my cousin has two of them now. I have never seen any sort of vomiting problem with them and certainly never had that problem with mine.

I guess in my opinion, it is not a breed issue more like a specific dog issue.

fausto vomitted as a young pup. it wasn't frequent but mayby once a month. he is now 13 mnths and doesn't vomit anymore.

She is 3 months now and i've not had any problems with her vomiting so far, but she does get the hiccups sometimes.

Kayti has a sensitive stomach and throws up often. It's mostly because she's so hyper that she doesn't let her food digest properly. Or when she gets nervous, anxious, etc.

Most Boston owners I've met said the same thing.

yeah they do tend to vomit from time too time...especially if they get too many snacks...or human treats. But i have a lab also and he throws up more....yuck...and much larger!

I also wondered if it throwing up is common in Bostons.
I have a 16 month old boston and he has always had problems with throwing up. There was a point, when he was alot younger, where he would throw up 5 times a day!!! Everything else was fine with him, he was even still super hyper and playful. Needless to say I panicked and rushed to the vet. Turns out he is fine he just has a very sensitive stomach. They put him on Medi-cal Gastro wet food which has worked WONDERS for him (he used to eat Eukenuba dry puppy food). Now, I know he has a sensitive stomach and it has become a game of "test the food". If he throws up, now I know it is because he ate something that has not agreed with him. Things that I have found to be really bad for his stomach is
anything he eats outside
dry dog food
Tomato based foods

He still has alot of gas though. The vet says this is not a problem though.

I have 2 adult bostons and a 12 wk old one and have not experienced any vomiting. The older ones vomit once in awhile but I think it's because they ate quickly and then played hard (just like a kid!)

Buddy is now 3 1/2 years old, and when he was little, he threw up almost every morning and it was thick yellow foam. One vet said it was because he went to bed with a full stomach and another vet said it was because he went to bed with an empty stomach. We we mad sure he ate about 1 hour before bedtime and we swapped his diet to a lamb and rice formula and it helped out tremendously. He has now since grown out of it and only throws up very rarely. If you dont mind me asking a kinda gross question, what does the vomit look like?

Our puppy vomits from time to time too.
Try elevating his food and water dishes, this has helped him not to vomit after he eats or drinks - which was suggested by our vet.

He will often vomit when he's playing with my brothers dog. They get so hyper and running all over, he'll get sick, then keep on playing.

At first, when taking him for a car ride, he'd get motion sickness. Not anymore though, he's used to it and loves the car ride. He's 6 months now.
