Default Male or Female??
Old 09-04-2007, 04:53 PM   #1 (permalink)

Hi,
I'm still deciding on getting a boston and one of my decisions is the sex of the dog. I have a female 7 year old bullmastiff. I have considered getting a male boston but my only concern is the "marking of territory".... I am very nervous about that and heard that only 50% of neutered males will stop doing that behavior. Can someone shed some light on this for me?! Thanks.

hello, i currently have 2 boston terriers. A boy zeus and a girl zoe. Both of them are 2 and from the same litter. Honestly I can say that i've always liked females dogs till i got my boy zeus. I love him to death...he's my little man. My male and female listen very well are are very well behaved. My male does like to mark his territory alot outside but thats just a male thing. He did lift his leg on the garbage can for the longest time but has finally kicked that habit. My girl is just a sweet little thing. Sorry my post doesn't really help you because I can't decide. They both are great. Since you have a girl dog maybe another girl would fit it. If i were you and are serious about gettin another dog...I would go to see the pups and go on personality not sex. that is the best advice. Go for the one that comes to you and you find the most appealing and you wont have any regrets, good luck..I would love to see pics when u do decide.

I went to see a litter today and all of them came at me, they were so darn cute! There are only 2 females, one is the runt and she is incredibly small. They also had a brown and white male who was so cute too but he was very aggressive, already biting on my arm. They were all so friendly and all coming at me at the same time that it was hard to tell any difference in personality. We will be deciding by this weekend. Thanks for the post. I think if a male marks outside that's one thing but if he were to do inside and possibly on furniture I would have a heart attack. LOL!

yeah, i wasn't to thrilled to see my zeus peeing on the garbage can a couple times...but he's out of that stage now. i know its hard because they are all so cute. I guess just go with the one your gut says and you cant go wrong. I would say that girls are probably easier to train but I have a boy that just steals my heart...and he's potty trained to the tee. So whatever you decide...male or female...training and consistency is all you need. good luck...would love to hear the results and any pics!

fausto is a male and it depends on how you raise you pup. fausje does mark his territorium outside our boundrys. he never does it within our yard and we have an enormus back yard. he has never peed inside the house! (to mark that is ofcoarse! when he was a puppy he did have his acccidents!) i tought him to pee at specific areas and he does it only where it's allowd.

My baby furball is a female. She is the most adorable little girl you have ever seen. She is so smart. She is 14 weeks old now. She is still working on the house training but doing good with it. It just takes patients. She will sit on command. I started with a treat for a couple days and then stopped that. She goes to the sink when she wants water and sits and crys. She comes to me when she is sleepy and sits at my feet and crys. She loves long rides in the car. I wouldn't take the world for my little girl. She's a miracle to disabled nurse of 28 years.

My Sony was the runt of the litter. Love her to death.

She's 12.6 lbs at 3 yrs.

I have a 7 month old brown and white male and I can't stop him marking for the life of me.

I think Females are easier to potty train.
