Question Air Travel Questions/Carrier Suggestions?
Old 11-04-2007, 09:09 PM   #1 (permalink)

Hi everyone,

I am new to the boards, and if all goes according to plan, will be picking up my new companion pet, a beautiful 6-month old brindle & white boy towards the end of the year.

I will be flying him home personally (on American Airlines), and I wanted to see if I could get some people's experiences about flying with BTs, airline's reactions and SOPs, recommended soft carriers, etc.

Unfortunately I can't check the dog as baggage as I live in "the tropics", and it's above the temperature limit most of the year (but who would want to check their BT anyway?!?).

So let me have it! Tell me your stories - the good AND the bad. I don't want any surprises at the airport, and less in the air.

Thanks!

I have flown my oldest many times, it is very easy. make sure his or her vaccinations are squared away and get a Pet Passport from your vet. Also, the Airlines will probably charge u to have the pet in the cabin. You normally cant have the pet out of the carrier, but these guys are so cute, the flight attendents never gave me any trouble with it, they usually wanted to hold him or even just pet him. I usually kept him in the kennel, just opened the top up so he could have a little more air. I cant remember the name of the soft carrier i had, but it was a nice thing to have

Default Flying back and forth from Hawaii

We flew to the mainland for the holidays. Our flight was American but we decided to fly our BT with Continental since they have temperature control measures. My biggest fear was him sitting out in the Cold (ATL) or heat somewhere.

We didn't notice a change in behavior. Although he was a bit thirsty after landing. I think he just didn't want to drink from the inverted bottle with a ball.
