Default Seizures in Boston Terriers
Old 07-06-2008, 11:58 AM   #1 (permalink)

We have a 5 yr old neutured Male Boston " Tucker", and last night we think we witnessed a seizure. He was just bumming around looking for a hand to scratch him by the side of the chair and we said want to go to bed?, so he dashes off but he falls over and gets up and it was as if he had no control over his back end,,his legs were scrambling to try and get him back on track,,,so we rushed to him and picked him up and held him telling him its okay. He was panting very badly as if he was super hot,we wiped him down with a cold face cloth 3 or 4 times,,,and then gently sat him down,,,but he had bad balance,,,so we held him for about 10 min before he could sit up okay. We then took him out on the lawn to get some fresh air,,,and after about 1 or 2 minutes he was running around as if nothing ever happened.
Would this have been a seizure?
Should we take him to his vet on Monday?

could be. seizure can have many diffrent types.i'd keep an eye on him. it maybe something that doesn't occur very often and has little influence on his being. then leave it as it is. if it occurs frequently take him to the vets. they maygive him medicyne to controle the seizures.

my female would do this from time to time. her eyes would get more bugged out than normal, and she would seem to panic a bit. it seemed to mostly occur in her back end. i would rub (massage) the area, and talk to her, and that usually worked. afterward, it was as if nothing happened. i was told it was NOT neuroligical. however, she did at one point have a stroke, immediatley after one of the seizures. (she was about 10 years old).
not trying to scare you, just want to let you know the whole thing.

If you witness that again, please call the Emergency Vet immediately. This is not something you just want to wait for. Ever! Better to be safe than sorry. You may want to call them anyway to describe what you saw. If you can take a video of it, it is helpful too. Most seizures can be controlled, but they are never a wait and see type of behavior. Please try to get into your Vet tomorrow and get a referral to a Neurologist who can see what is going on. Five years is too young to have seizures. Keeping you in our thoughts...please keep us posted on any news!
