This is buster and he is over weight we are now exersizing with him everyday and we want to cut back on his food intake. believe it or not he was only eating about 1 1/2 cups one time a day. now he eats about 3/4 cup 2 times day. he is a large breed and weight about 35 lbs.

He is very cute. He looks more stocky than fat. We saw a BT at the dog park yesterday that looked just his size and his owner said that some Boston's are bred bigger like Frenchies. Thats what your pup looks like But if you are concerned about his size, I'd recommend mixing green beans in his food and lowering the amount of dog food. Green beans act as a filler so they dont feel hungry...and THEY LOVE THEM! Carrots are good too

we use canned green beans in their food, unsalted of course...and we use fresh baby carrots as treats. They love them!!! Its good to use carrots for training too. instead of giving them store bought treats, we give them carrots

I think he looks like he's naturally a big guy but he could lose a couple pounds. You want him to have a defined waist and be able to feel ribs but not see them. As far as how much you feed him, that all depends on the brand of food. Usually, you tend to feed less of the high quality foods. You could try 1 1/4 cups of food (maybe 3/4 in the morning and 1/2 cup in the evening) to start and then you could take him to 1 cup if you need to. I've heard that about adding green beans to the food as well.

Your vet will have an illustration to help you determine where Buster is as far as the need for taking off some pounds. They can also give you his caloric needs, which is a good way to decide the amount of any food you give him. The weight control foods, especially grocery store brands are notorious for packing on the pounds.
You might want to make sure you are feeding him the best food you can afford, check with this site for premium foods, these are usually found in smaller independent stores rather than the larger stores. However, Petco now carries Wellness which is a quality food.
Check out this site:

My big boy Turbeaux was always a thick log on legs, and I made the mistake of feeding him Iams weight control, he just continued to gain weight. When I switched him to a premium food, he is now 26 pounds of muscle, well defined waist, glossy coat and a lot of energy. He is almost 8 years old and looks & acts wonderfully healthy

Yes, he's definitely too fat. Sorry, but you asked. I'm sure he won't like being on a diet (who does) but you'll be doing him a big favor by improving his health and the quality of his life. Obesity causes the same health problems in dogs as it does for people.
