If he is a just a male boston without any credentials, then no reputable breeder is gong to let him near their bitch, much less pay you!

Assuming you do the health certifications, put a CH title on him, and his features complement somebody’s bitch you could get several hundred dollars, but forget about it if he is just an ordinary pet boston.

Typically a stud fee is usually whatever they are selling the puppies for, and you don't get the money until they are sure the dog is pregnant. Some will also give you pick of the litter instead of a stud fee if thats what you wanted to do.

I don't entirely believe that "backyard breeders" are necessarily a bad thing. If it was left to only professionals could you imagine how much more these dogs would be? I'm sure many members of this forum purchased their pup(s) from someone who might be considered a "backyard breeder". Alot of us are willing to take a chance to have a great pet.

In regards to adopting from a rescue, why is that always the alternative? I've viewed many rescue sites and cannot seem to find a Boston that would be compatable with my family or vice versa. Is there something wrong with just wanting a puppy?

How does one earn the title of "backyard breeder"? I've spoken to many many breeders of Bostons and of other breeds and there are some individuals who really know about their breed but choose not to show or be considered a professional.

Lastly, It seems that if anyone mentions wanting to breed their dog or get another puppy everybody seems to get upset as why this individual wouldn't want to rescue a dog instead.

I'm not trying to offend anyone or start any attacks. Just curious.

Thank You!

A good breeder breeds to the standard, and does all necessary health testing. A byb breeds for profit. Its NOT ok because their breeding against the standard, and more than likely breeding unhealthy puppies. They take away the traits of the breed and think that shots and worming equals healthy dogs. Reputable breeders rarely turn a profit on their puppies. I think its wrong to charge a bunch of money for a puppy that has no health testing whatsoever and $20 papers, because its for a profit, not the betterment of the breed.

"In regards to adopting from a rescue, why is that always the alternative?"
Because there are over 6 million animals put down YEARLY in shelters and thousands more that dont have homes.

"Lastly, It seems that if anyone mentions wanting to breed their dog or get another puppy everybody seems to get upset as why this individual wouldn't want to rescue a dog instead. "
There are over 6 million put down yearly, why would someone want to contribute to that? Most people have no idea how much money and effort it takes to have standard quality, healthy puppies.Theres a reason there are pet quality and show quality, to maintain the breed standards.

Theres nothing wrong with getting a puppy, however there are ways to not support these kinds of people. They act like its nothing, instead of a living thing, that gets them money for nothing. So what if they have worms? Its not their problem after their sold. These kinds of people are out there, and I cant stand it. I've known too many people get hurt after having a expensive dog for a week and they die because the person lies about them been checked by a vet, and by the time they get there its too late. Their deaths are so easily preventable its disgusting.

My two cents. I'm not trying to be mean, just answering your questions to the best of my knowledge, but thats how people are. Especially here in the puppy mill capitol of the US.
