Default Care after breeding
Old 01-03-2007, 06:40 PM   #1 (permalink)

Just having my female, Star bred I started hearing all kinds of crazy things. Is it OK to bathe her while she is carrying puppies and just after her heat?

I am aware of the troubles they have whelping, am already prepared way ahead of time if a C section is needed. Both male and female have small heads so hopefully she will be fine. Any information will be very grateful.

First of all, I would like to say congratulations and good luck with the pregnancy & new puppies. My boston terrier just had 3 puppies (1 male & 2 females) last Sunday (and all on her own with not complications).

Unfortunately I don't have an answer to your question regarding giving Star a bath or not. I have never heard anything about it before. If she is in need of a bath, maybe use some baby wipes to do a quick cleaning until you find an answer to that question.

Good luck to you & Star. :D

How great for you boston to be able to have her puppies on her own. Luckily both male and female of mine have small heads so I am hoping that Star will have an easier time.

I hade never heard about not bathing her before either. I have a call into her vet and should know something soon. I will post what ever I hear for everyone's curiousity.

Wow, I haven't been on for a while. Hope all is well with your girl. It is fine to bathe them while they are pregnant. I have never had any problems with it.

Default Bathing when with puppies

Star's vet says that it is not a good idea to bathe her until she was out of heat for 2 weeks. Bathing then is fine until two weeks before puppies are due. Then wait at least 2 weeks after they are born to give her another bath. Best not to place her in a tub of water but more like a shower. Reason being is it is to easy to get infection with their "private parts" being enlarged. I was also given the same advice from a post here too.

I am just dying to know if she is really having puppies yet. Should be able to tell something soon. It has just been a month since she was bred.

How far along does she have to be to find out if she is pregnant or not?

I have no idea. I just have to wait until she gets fatter or I can feel puppies moving inside. If she only has a couple of babies in there it may be hard to tell. Keep your fingers crossed!
