Default Cleaners
Old 01-25-2007, 08:00 PM   #1 (permalink)

I live in an apartment that has absolutely no carpet. I don't have to mop that often, but when I do I mop the entire thing. I was wondering if anyone knew of a safe cleaner that I can use that won't hurt Tie-Son if he happens to lick it, that won't irritate his skin, or harm him in any other way.

Also, I heard a while ago that the Swiffer Wet Jet cleaners are toxic to animals. Does anyone know if this is true?

My mom has all hard wood floors, and linoleum in the kitchen. She uses white vinegar dilluted in water to clean the floors. It does smell at first but its amazing how the vinegar cleans. I don't know whether this helps or not, but I would think being there aren't any chemicals in it, that it would be alot safer than store bought cleaners.

I also heard about the swiffers, but I can't find the link to the info.

Thanks for the tip! Does your mom mop her whole house in that? Or just the "accident" spots?

All her floors, all but one room of her downstairs are hardwood, and the kitchen is linoleum. She waxes the linoleum after she uses the vinegar, but the hardwood she just uses the vinegar water on. :D

It is very much true about the swiffer solution being toxic. I have 1st had experience with it. I used it on my hardwood floors for a few months and Thor began to lick his feet and chewing them and then began to loose his hair on his chest and it became red and raw. I went to the vet and after many different tries with food alergies and detergents used for washing his bedding we found nothing that was causing the problem. Then we went to my Mom's house for 2 weeks and his redness went away and his hair began growing back. Guess what she used on her floors........ Vinegar and hot water!!!! So, I went home and began using the same and presto! No more problems with licking feet and redness etc. We have been using the vinegar and water now for about 2 years and it works great! So I recommend anyone that is using it right now to stop, it could be affecting your baby in ways that may not be apparent now but may come up later in life.
