Default Eye Question
Old 05-09-2007, 07:33 PM   #1 (permalink)

Hi, I've got a boston terrier named, Baxter who is almost a year old. He's quite the bundle of energy. About 2 weeks ago we noticed his eye was very red. It doesn't seem to be getting any worse, but it isn't getting any better either. Any ideas of what could be wrong? i've posted pics of his eyes at http://www.outfitterwebdesign.com/pics/baxtereyes.jpg and http://www.outfitterwebdesign.com/pics/baxtereyes2.gif As you will see, it is his right eye in the pic that is bad. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Lance

your boston may be getting "cherry eye," but don't worry. I believe it starts out with a certain infection, common with pugs/bostons etc. You can get a little gel antibacterial from your Vet, 3 times a day. You just get real close with your dog and maybe get someone else to pat her from behind and pull her eyelid down a tad and wipe a CM length of the gel onto the back of the lid. Then the dog blinks and your all done, give a treat after and eventually they won't squirm or really care what you're doing.

My boston had it and we did this and it got better. Not so red, a healthy pink. You should prevent her from rubbing her eye when it's red and infected like that because it could aggravate it.

Post Red Eye Problems-Conjunctivitis
Old 01-21-2008, 04:02 PM   #4 (permalink)

Hi: I haven't been here for a couple years. Our first abused BT died after a good 5 years with us. My favorite one died of congestive heart failure. Now the third one is deaf, 3/4 blind, bad back, but DEMANDS a walk every day, DEMANDS her biscuits and shows no signs of wanting to leave the planet-- ever!

Diamond has conjunctivitis (red eye) worse in her total cataract eye. My vet retired and I hate the alternatives around here, plus they are 35 miles away. He gave us neosporin which I have used but not on a proper schedule and the red just does not go away; it's more of a pink in the best eye. Anybody have experience with any other cream or medication they have been advised to use. If it's not over the counter, I can get it in Mexico which is right here.

Also, I could uses recommendations for the vet books people like best. If we get another one or two Bostons, I am going to make a aserious effort to know how to deal with most of what comes up. One or both will be at least 6 years old if we do get more.

Thanks for any help. I'm sorry I haven't been keeping track of the discussions. Mrs. Innes

fausto only has red eyes when he is excited. whenhe plays with other dogs or does agility he will get red eyes. he also has a tendency to get thing in his eyes. to soothe them i use a vitamine A cream that also ensures that there won't be a conguntivitis.
