I do Jakes nails when he is close to sleeping and he hardly notices hehe.

I cut Mack's and Diezel's nails all the time. I use a normal toe nail clipper and it works fine. Like previous posters said, just be careful not to cut too far. If the nail is white, it is really easy, if it is dark, u have to be ore careful

If you do end up cutting to deep, you dog will know it and yelp and bleed- there is a product that you can by to help stop the bleeding, but it is pretty much expensive corn starch- you can just use corn starch on the end of the nail that is bleeding- it won't make the dog feel better, but it will help stop the bleeding!!!

I have been using a variable speed dremil with a round sanding tool. My dog never flinches.She really didnt like the clippers.

'We' (notice I said we) started trimming Daisy's nails with a Dremel tool when we first got her. She only has two black nails so that makes it rather simple - however - using a power sander too long on one nail gets it extremely hot and you can hurt them worse that way than cutting into their quick. It's best to spend a short amount of time with the sanding drum and then use a stone to finish the job. I sometimes make two rounds on each nail to avoid this. She wouldn't know how to act if we used a clipper. Even though we run it on slow speed (7,500 RPM) and it's at its quietest, it's not her favorite thing to do.

I'm assuming everyone knows when you do file or trim the vein retracts a bit backwards, so if you do it every three or four days or so to begin with, you can get them on down there where you won't even hear the nails on the kitchen floor. Afterwards, it becomes a once-a-week job and doesn't take but a few minutes.

We use the cordless pet dremel - it is very quiet, and have no problems. We used clippers before for dogs, but it was a battle and scary because the last thing you want to do is hit the quick. I get a flashlight (pocket sized) and shine it behind the nail. I then mark with a sharpie - choose whatever color you want and mark where the quick is. Then, I just sand until I get to that point. We try to do this once a week as the quick will pull back if you don't let the nails get too long and keep them short so you can go even shorter. If you can hear their nails when they walk, they are too long. Dremeling is kind of fun especially when you consider there are so many different attachments to do the projects around your house and then your dogs nails!

We use the dremil too; Pablo still hates it but it's tons better than clipping

I trim pepper's nails myself also with regular people clippers. he is very good about sitting still for this too.

I've had better luck using a dremel. Rosco HATES the clippers. If anyones interested, heres a good site on how to use a dremel.

yep, those treats are important :-) Pangit can't stand regular clippers, but will lay still for that battery powered sander they hock on TV.. Thus far its been a good investment
