Question BARF Diet?
Old 08-30-2007, 07:23 PM   #1 (permalink)

No, not that kind of barf!

Raw foods diets, aka BARF (Bones and Raw Foods). I was wondering if anyone here does this, what success you've had, and where to begin?

My Boston eats primarily raw. I have not tried the bone diet yet, and at this point i don't think i really need to. He had a lot of trouble digesting regular hard food or should i say digesting it too easily....

I switched to a raw chicken medallion food from natures variety. Within the first day his stool improved and he could NOT WAIT to eat, it is usually gone within a few seconds.

This is a more expensive route to go so be aware of that should you decide to try it. To cut back on costs a bit i decided to try some other dry foods for his evening meal to see if i could find one that agreed with him, and i finally did. I now feed him royal canin special 30 for sensitive stomachs in the evening and the medallions in the morning.

He used to be a fussy eater, now he can't wait to eat and he seems healthier than ever.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

A Raw diet is the best diet you can feed your Boston. They may not look like a wolf on the outside but their DNA is almost identical. They also have the exact same type of teeth, same extremely strong stomach acid, they lack the same enzymes needed to break down and digest grains and vegetables. They both have very elastic stomachs and very short intestines.
