Unhappy Shae got sick...
Old 11-11-2007, 04:02 PM   #1 (permalink)

Shae is growing like a weed..She has beening doing great, except for one incident last week that scared me half to dead...I have a big yard, we live on a farm. Every day I let Shae go outside and play with our 3 year old sheltie named Shaneka..They love each other and play well together..Shae came back to the door and scatched for me to let her in...then for the next hour or so she acted funny...ears laid down, eyes drownsy and wouldn't eat or drink...Then all at once she started vomiting..nothing but white foam and flem...then a bad diarrhea...oh she was so sick..Of course I panicked and called my brother next door...by the time he got to me she had vomited again and this time it was a large amount of greenish flem and foam..but after this time she got to feeling better and jumping around when my brother got to us...he called the vet because we thought she had gotten into deszel fuel from the tractor at the edge of the yard..she had that smell on her..The vet said to bath her three times in dishwashing liquid and then once in baby bath and if she wasn't better in a couple hours to bring her in, that deszel fluid asorted in the skin...so I did that and she was doing good..this all happened around 3pm and around 11pm that night my husband came yelling she had vomit up a bird....I mean a whole bird, feathers and all...I don't know if she found it dead in the yard or if she killed it...but she ate it....She is fine now..but I won't let her out now unless she is on a leash and she hates that...she lays on the back on the couch and cries, wanting out to play with Shaneka...I feel sorry for her...but I'm afraid to let her out.....Would love to hear from anyone that has dealt with this problem...

She obviously did eat something or absorbed enough desel fuel to cause some poisioning to her system.

Unless the bird had eaten somthing toxic that should not have made her sick. Our Boston Terriers, being carnivores would actually be healthier if they ate raw birds (usually quail or chicken would be ideal) but if the bird had eaten say some rat poison or simialr and it killed the bird then most likely that was not the puppies problem. More likely the fuel was!

IF there are chemicals ANYWHERE on your property that any dog could get into then no dogs should be allowed to come into contact with them.

Can't you take the Boston for a walk with you and the sheltie on the property? She NEEDS to be outside breathing fresh air, getting sunshine and LOTS of exercise but yes, it needs to be supervised.
