Default Stinky Dog
Old 12-21-2007, 10:26 PM   #1 (permalink)

We just got a two year old boston terrier 1 week ago & we have given her a bath several times. She doesn't stink but the crate & the room where she stays during the day smells horrible. We have tried perfume & different shampoos. Does anybody have any ideas on how to keep down this horrible smell. She weighs 15 pounds.

Is she in good health? Maybe there is something wrong that is giving off an odor.

For some reaon Rocky always smells after sleeping, and i really have no idea why. Other then that, he smells fine.

Maybe your boston is farting a lot. It might sound stupid, but Rocky used to be able to clear the room until we changed his food. He would constanly be farting and it would smell extremely bad.

Yes she is in good health. I think you may be right about the farting because she does not stink it is just the room she is in. What brand dog food did you change to? Thanks for your help.

The best diet for any dog is a species specific raw meat and bones diet. I have raised and fed my Bostons a raw diet for over 20 years and they have no gas, beautiful clean teeth, shiny coats and the most wonderful happy, willing to please attitudes! The only vet bills I have ever had were for c-sections when needed.

However, that all being said, I know many people have not researched diet much and still belive in the advertising that their dogs are dogs so they must need processed, dead, dried or canned dog food.

If you want to feed kibble, please be aware of the ingredients. Many are called natural or holistic but if you read the lables, they are anyting but!

Find a kibble with NO grains, NO perservatives, and MEAT as the main ingredient.

Being a Veterinary Naturopath and having done my own food trials in the past I can only reccomend a couple of Kibbles and the best one I have found and continue to recommend is http://www.thewholedog.org/rubicon.html Rubicon, Grain and Potato Free. It is an organic meat based kibble that is layerd with freeze dried raw meats.

With any cooked diet, whether it be kibble, canned or even home cooked, don't forget to supplement with enzymes, probiotics, Fish oil, vitamins and minerals.
