Default Knee Problems??? Help Please - 06-24-2008, 07:04 PM

Anyone have a problem with their boston and their knees?
My girl was playing yesterday and turned quickly and I heard a pop. The vet says torn ligaments and something wrong with her patella.
Anyone have any input???

Was the vet talking about LP (luxating patella)? You can do a web search and should find info about it. What else did your vet say?

One of my bostons was diagnosed with a luxating patella before he was a year old. He had been doing well and taking a daily dose of CosequinDS. It had been getting worse lately so Monday we had a consult with an orthopedic surgeon. We have a surgery date set up for November 3rd.

Our BT has Luxating Patellas. Ask the vet what grade it is. We had to have the surgery on his right knee because it was a high grade (meaning the patella slips out of place very frequently). The surgery was a success, yes it was around $2500. His left kneww is a very low grade so we have not done anything to it. He only has issues rarely. There is a ton of info on Luxating Patellas on the web, it is very common in small breed dogs.

My BT has this problem too. So far it's just I mild case worse on the right than the left. My vet says eventually over time he will have to have surgery on the right knee. The patella can pop in and out of socket. My vet also recommended glucosamine chondroitin when it does worsen to lubricate the joints (just like humans take). I have tried to restrict how much by BT jumps up and down off the bed and furniture and that has really helped along w/regular walks
