Default Allergies, Dry itchy skin, questions.

Hi, I am new to this forum but have a question. My BT is 3 years old and I have been battling her allergies. I have been to the Vet many times for it and we just cant seem to get it under control. Like many BTs she developed dry itchy ears and then throat and tummy and legs. She eventually lost her hair on these areas. She scratches like crazy and it causes bleeding and scabs. She has been tested for mites and fleas and other problems. The Vet cant seem to find exactly whats wrong. She seems to think that it is all caused by allergies. So she gave us the steroid Vetalog. If we give her the steriod everyday it keeps her under somewhat control. But we were told not to give her too many. I try to give her just half every couple days and it doesnt do the trick. We have changed her diet to a more allergenic dog food.

My question is what have others done to help this situation?
And what kind of food have you found to help?
I would like some examples of the brand and style of food so that I can try. I am just really worried that my little BT is not living life as happy as she can.

Please help me.

Lex

Have you thought about doing the allergy testing? You can try an oatmeal shampoo to help with the dryness, and some dogs have chicken allergies so you can try cutting that from his diet. Maybe try a food with lamb?

I also have the same problem w/my Carter. He is also on steroids I can control his itching
w/a quarter of a pill a day. I have tried many foods, right now he is on grain free "call of the wild"
seems to work alright but no cure. I shampoo him with Sargents medicated, this seems to work the best. He still scratches, is hair is not at thick on the sides, but he no longer has open sores. August
her in the north east seems to really be bad. I had contemplanted allergy shots, but I am not rich and
there is no quarentee they will work. I feel a little quilty about the steroids but though I may be
shortening his life I am increasing the quality. Good luck if you run across anything that does the trick let me know
