I just got my pup about 5-6 days ago and his name is Murphy. He's 6 weeks old, brindle and white and my very first Boston Terrier. He's a pretty well-behaved little guy we just have a few problems, He HATES to be alone because of mine and my boyfriends work schedules he only has about 3-4 hours a day alone , i dont want to crate him so we block off the kitchen and let him stay in there but every time I put him in the kitchen when it's time to leave he cries and throws himself at the table top i use to block the kitchen off!!! He also is teething so is quite the biter. We live on the 2nd floor in an apartment and he has a lot of trouble with potty training and even peed on the bed last night. but i have to say the biggest problem is that he doesn't sleep through the night and I am EXHAUSTED!!!! ... any help??? other than that he is so wonderful he gives many many kisses and is a big cuddler. just need some advice especially on getting him to sleep at night. thanks!

Well we crate trained from the get go and now Ozzy loves his crate. Actually he always has. And its made life much easier. All I can say about the potty training is use the puppy pads while you aren't home then take him out often and he will get the hang of it, Ozzy did...good luck!

Hi,
We just got our first Boston Terrier this past Saturday and her name is Lola. We have always crate trained our other dogs. (yellow lab and boarder collie mutt) The lab had a large crate and we used the same one for our next dog but Lola would get lost inside this thing. I got her a very small crate, the smalles that I could find but I can't afford to keep buying more crates everytime she grows a little. What size crate would you reccomend I get that I can use for her now and when she is fully grown?

hi congrats on your new puppy! you will have to teach the pup to be alone. he will not learn this from him self. give him a large bone to keep him busy in the time that your not there. put him in a crate where he also needs to be when your at home. he shouldn't associate the crate with you leaving. also let him sleep in the crate. beginwith putting him in your bedroom and when thid goes well place him a little further out of the room until he eventually sleeps through the night. it could be that he's afraid that he will be left alone during the night. dogs live in packs and are actually never alone in the wild. your puppy is also very young. 6 weeks is really too early to leave his mother. teathing is something that is not possible at this age. a pup will begin teathing at 16 weeks. never at 6. ithink that your pup is discovering objects with his mouth. this is pretty much the same as babys do.

They have crates that come with a separater so they can grow with your puppy. I got one on those for my pug and it worked great. Once they are potty trained it doesn't matter what size it is (as long as it's not too small). Good luck!

All I can say is crate training was the ticket for us!!!!! Years ago I had one little dog who just refused to housebreak, no matter what I did (now I put a few things together and know why) My ex-DH worked midnights and the little guy would sleep with him all day, when he had to go he would get up, walk outside the door and pee then go back to bed.... Needless to say that went on for about 5 months before I went and bought a crate and have crate trained 2 dogs after... Thankfully Derby was used to a crate when we got her so there was no issues

Try looking into classified ads for used crates. When you buy one, make sure you clean it well (you never know but trust me I picked up 4 crates this way! 2 for at home and 2 for my mom's and I wouldn't say any out of the 4 were used *hard*) I know my girlfriend just picked up a crate for her boyfriends bulldog for $40 and it was used for 6 months....

Angel 6 yr old Blonde Cocker Spaniel

Fric'N'Frac the Turtles
2 skin kids........
Oh yeah and my darling better half!!!!

Crate training would be your best option!
