(SORRY about my 1st post being so long)

Hello People,
We just bought 2 Bostons about a week and a half ago. They are both boys and 5 weeks old. Will be ready to come home in about 4 weeks. Anyways I had a few questions that I can hopefully have answered on this forum.

I paid the breeder for the puppies but all I wanted at that time in writing was that I paid him for 2 Boston male puppies & the amount. I know I should be getting more from him, haven't asked yet but will call him tomorrow. But in the meanwhile, I was wondering if someone over here could point me in the right direction to a proper contract that I should be receiving.

The breeder was very friendly and knowledgeable about Bostons and answered a whole bunch of questions I had about the dogs. He told me that of the parents, only the
sire was registered (CKC). Both the parents looked healthy he said that all the puppies had their dewclaws removed, they had been checked for worms and what not and on Monday they were going for some shots.

He told me that I can give him a call and stop by anytime to see the puppies and ask him if I had any questions but I really don't know what to ask.

Please help me out, what all do I need to ask him for to ensure that these puppies won't have any problems in the future.

THANK YOU

congrats! what i'd ask is about patella luxation. this is a lose kniecap which is a fault in hereditory! look if the pups have large enough nostrils as they can otherwise develop breathing problems. parents may seem healthy but ask to see vets documents. here you should be able to see whether the adults have been vacinated and if they have gone under any operations. ask to see ithe mother alone. then you can see if she is friendly and has no anxieties. females will give axieties to pups! pick up both pups one at a time. let them stand on their hind legs on your hand. if they don't stand evenly on your hand this could be the knie thing!
what i'd also do is come unanounced. then you can really get a feeling of how the breeder tends to his pups. this is no guaranty ofcourse but will give a good impression of a good breeder. the last thing i'd ask is what if the pup has breeding faults? will he help with the finances or will he give a new puppy when he's so ill that there not a thing you can do anymore!
ofcourse this is all precaution as he is probably an excellent breeder!

good luck!

I know we have a few breeders that frequent these forums, so maybe someone could chime in with some specific answers to your questions RE: the contract. Personally, I would think that would be something the breeder would provide. He's the merchant in this situation, so you'd think he would have done something like this in the past (especially if he's taking deposits on pups).

Esther gives some great advice about what to look for in the parents. Also, make sure the breeder spells out his health guarantee for you - it is very important. We've had several people join these forums with some pretty heart wrenching stories that come about when their new puppy gets sick.
