Default Buddy from Hawaii
Old 12-13-2007, 04:11 AM   #1 (permalink)

Here's Buddy from Hawaii. He is my 3 yr old BT that I got from TN. He's the typical BT full of energy and curiosity however he recently had to slow down due to two irregular disks in his spine. I never would've thought anything was wrong with him by the way he runs around all over the place. Right now he is acting like nothing is wrong, running around and playing with the other dogs in the park.

He just basically sat still and didn't move at all for over an hour. I thought this was odd so I threw his favorite toy and he didn't even go for it. He tried but he was dragging his two hind legs. I took him to the vet after that. X-Ray showed that he had two butterfly shaped vertebrae that had caused the disk to swell and disrupt his nervous system. A steroid shot decreased the inflammation.

Wow...So a little over than a year later and Buddy now has the same problem. This time I saw how it happened.

Yesterday during the fireworks I decided it would be a good idea to climb on the roof and get a better view of aerials throughout the island (Oahu, Hawaii). Well, being that he is a Boston Terrier Buddy decided to follow. I climbed on my daughter's swing set (Plastic type with stairs and slide) and hopped on the roof.

Buddy had the same idea, climbed up the steps and tried to follow but ended up not jumping high enough and fell about 4 ft. He kept on trying until I told him to sit. He didn't go lame until this evening after we got back from watching Marley & Me of all movies.

He's chilling right now on the couch, the vets on post were closed. I have their private number but that's just in case one of my patrol dogs go down. Hopefully, all goes well tomorrow and he'll be back to normal.

He is soooooooooo cute!!!!! Our Otis was recently diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy. He is fine now and on phenobaritol. You would think the drugs would quiet him down. NOOOOOOOOOO lol. But it is making him very hungry. He is 18 months old and full of vigor and piss!!!

Yep, we tried to make him take it easy but I don't think easy is a range BTs can do.

This morning my wife carried him to his favorite peeing and relief spots. After he was done she carried him back to the house. I was all setup to refill his steroids when the mailman came. Buddy shot off to the door barking and jumping. I canceled the med because they are damaging to his liver. I figured he can take it easy the rest of the day.

I'm not trying to be mean I just don't want to solve the back problem by killing his liver. Somehow I don't think my insurance would cover me giving up a part of my liver to Buddy.
