Default Dog lover from Vancouver Island

I don't own a Boston Terrier yet, just doing research. We have just lost a dearly beloved Toy Poodle and still have one named Simone. My husband first fell in love with the Boston Terriers that we had met in various places. It seemed fated to be when our vet suggested one after our poodle died. We like a small dog but trainable and quite active. We were involved in flyball with Maggie and were considering tracking with both dogs. Everything I have read says that Boston Terriers are the perfect little dog.Simone is terrified of big dogs after a couple of attacks when she was about a year old. We feel we can never replace our beloved Maggie and any other poodle we would get would pale in comparison. What does everybody think, would this be a good fit?

IMHO Bostons are the perfect dog. But now of course you're asking someone on a BT board! Some BT's can be defined as very active and there are alot of them involved in flyball and such. Be aware, though, that Boston's have a very rough play style that tends to intimidate smaller breeds. They tend to love everybody and It just depends on your present dog in how they'll get along.

Hello, deejay, and welcome to the forum. If the one you get is anything like ours, he/she will have energy to burn. Terribly smart also but ours is a little spiteful if she doesn't get her way.

BT's are great. Try to look up if there are any dog shows in your area so you can spend some time with the breed as well as some others. That is the best way to double check. When you are ready to get a puppy, please find a breeder that performs all the required health testing on their puppies. Even though these puppies may cost a bit extra compared to going to a petstore (Which BTW has all Puppmill puppies) you will pay less in the long run to avoid all the health problems that BT's have from poor breeding. This guide is helpful for BT's more specifically. You will notice that it isn't easy to find a good breeder, but just be patient. Good Luck!

Thanks everybody for the help. If we buy one it will be from a reputable breeder. We visited a dog show in Victoria a couple of weeks ago and observed and visited with a bt breeder. We would never buy from a pet store or a backyard breeder. We have been bitten once. If we didn't want a pure bred we would go to rescue dogs.
