Default Boston breeder in Georgia

If you're in the Georgia area (or just don't mind driving this way) and are looking for a new Boston Terrier puppy, I highly recommed the breeder who I got Jake from - Grey Ghost Kennels.

The gentleman who owns the business is named Grey and is extremely knowledgeable about the breed. He'll be more than happy to answer any questions and I can definitely vouch for the cleanliness of the facilities.

The only downfall is that he's located way out in Swainsboro, but the long trip out there would definitely be worth it.

Yikes Jimmy!

I am sure you love your Boston from these people and they may have been "clean" but this is NOT a reputable/ethical breeder!

Here is a great little article on how to find a reputable breeder.

And here is the link to the BTCA Club of America's breeder referral http://www.bostonterrierclubofamerica.org/referral.html

luckily there are only 5 breeders here in the netherlands.this is not always a positive thing if you think of inbreeding. but most breeders use dogs that are imported or in other countries. there are almost no cross breeds here. the breed is also not very known here. the thing that surprised me when i looked at the diffrent dogs in america is the diversity that is seen. colors that are not permitted here, ears and tails that are not as the breed standard suggests and noses that are really long compared to our bostons. when i read the breed standard of america i noticed that the standard doesn't vary from ours. how can it be that there are bt that have a pedigree and vary so much in appearance?

Esther,

This is because so many people in the U.S. buy from backyard breeders, pet shops and puppy mills. You are seeing the products of dogs being bred together for no other reason then money!

If you go to a Show breeder's web site or a dog show you will see dogs that are bred to not only meet the standard but are tested for genetic health problems and sold with guarentees.

People here in the U.S. are ingnorant I think. They do not realize when they buy from a breeder that does not health test their dogs or to breeders that do not spend years planning thier lines (pedigree) by breeding to dogs that are also health tested and bred to standard they are supporting the breeding of Bostons that carry all the bad traits structurally as well as health wise.

There are also a lot of people out here in the U.S. that do not even know what the standard states or do they care. If a back yard breeder sees them coming they can plan on paying up to $2,000. for a non-standard color such as red or fawn with NO genetic health guarentee. They could have bought a SHOW QUALITY puppy for that much from a very reputable breeder that is trying to breed out health problems instead of prepetuate them.

Sorry, Don't get me started here lol

i can imagine! here there are other breeds that have those problems. the labrador and golden retriever are bred to the point that the caracter isn't what its supposed to be. there are dosile ones and otherwise there are hyperactive ones. they dont look like the standard anymore. here the bred puppys of all breeds are registerd so that you can see howmany puppys from which breed heve been born. this is noted each month. the boston has mayby 4 pups born in the 2 months while the labrador 300 pups a month are born!
here a boston terrier kosts around 1250 to 1850 euro's. a lot of money but then there are guarantys on their health.
it's a shame that breeds are distroyed by backyard breeders and all the problems it gives pups and new owners.
i have looked at your home page and found that your dogs look as the one i have got. beautiful dogs that are as our breed standard and yours ofcourse!
