fausje does everything for a treat. i train him with a clicker. my bt is smarter than the most labradors . i have followed 3 classes and am preparing to start agility. i know of a boston that traines and does compititions in the highest form of obedience hier in the netherlands! there are also bt that train flyball and trained rescue dogs!

most trainers think that the bt is just as dence as the frenchbulldog.

we kan proeve them all wrong

After that comment, I was pretty determined to have the most well-trained Boston ever, but it turns out that I think they guy was sort of right - Jake pretty much has a mind of his own and rarely listens to commands...or at least obey them. And it's not like I slacked off with the training either - I worked with him for an hour or so pretty much every day while we were enrolled in the classes.

So, like I said, I was wondering if any of you guys have had better luck with your Bostons. Do yours actually sit, stay, and come when told? If so, what was your secret to success?

That instructor should NOT be an instructor. He obviously knows little about dogs.... Any dog is trainable with the proper methods. I have a Boston now and he is my 5th dog that i have trained. He is 6 months old now and i would honestly say he is one of the easiest to train so far. I am a previous owner of a Labrador, Springer Spaniel, Basset hound, & a Siberian Husky.

I really think what Cesar Milan (DOG WHISPERER) teaches about being a pack leader is key. Once you are the pack leader, training comes easy. It still takes patience and work, but in the end how well your dog does is up to you.

Good luck!

Roscoe will ONLY follow commands for treats, we have been working on making him sit before we let him outside or before he comes back in and that seems to be working for the most part. He is very stubborn =). I am looking for a obedience class to get him into now. He can "sit" "lay down" "shake" "dance" "bang" (I say "BANG" he should play dead but he just lies on his side) and this week we are working on "roll over" and he is doing really well. I saw this video on you tube and think its the CUTEST thing and though i would share.

My little one is way cute!!! She is 3 months old and already know sit and is getting better with up and lay down! I have only had her for 3 weeks, but she is doing very well- aside from being excited all the time... she is a little ball of energy!

Default boston training - 06-23-2008, 03:39 PM

Gus our boston has just finished his second class in obedience training and is signed up for his third. He sits, stays, downs. He loves going through tunnels, over ramps. Now at first he thought it was play time but soon learned to listen and do what was asked of him. Now Gus is still much of a puppy and can be stubborn but he is learning, off leash is going to take a little longer but were working on it constantly.
Boston do very well when it comes to agility, Gus loves to show off.

I have 7 BTs of my own and foster many more some are smart and learn fast some take a while . My Padamay now 2 years old would not learn much when younger now she does what she is told like sit , stay , come , leave it , no and kennel . But she is also very hard headed and it took a while for her to grow up enough to be able to learn .
